What is a Clinical Psychologist and what happens at an appointment?

Clinical psychologists are highly trained specialists in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a range of psychological, developmental and mental health problems.

Meeting with the psychologist will involve discussing the issues of concern, exploring thoughts, emotions and behaviours, and making a joint agreement on how best to alleviate the problems. Sessions are normally up to 50 minutes in length but assessment sessions can be longer.

Dr Coyle has training and vast experience in multiple therapeutic approaches (e.g. CBT, ACT, DBT, Schema Therapy). The approach for your treatment will depend on what has been shown by scientific research to resolve the particular problems you are experiencing and what feels right for you. Psychological therapies work best when both the psychologist and the client are working together as a team.

The number of sessions required will vary from person to person and is negotiated between psychologist and client. It is common that you will be asked to complete some questionnaires and other tasks during the course of your treatment.
